Theme Reveal

This time round I wasn’t going to do the international April A-Z blog challenge, but I changed my mind yesterday!

My theme is Freedom. I’ll be putting up quotes with images of some of the well known sayings on Freedom as well as including words from friends who I asked today via what’s app and I’ve had some lovely responses!

I hope you’ll join me in popping by! The challenge requires us to post on each letter of the alphabet from A to Z starting on 1st April. So 26 posts every day except for Sunday when we take a rest –

  1. Susan, I think freedom is a great theme and I look forward to reading your quotes. I won’t promise to read them all, but I’ll read as many as I can. I wish you success with the challenge.

    • Thanks Norah, a tough theme (or at least I’m finding it a little tough in keeping them shortish yet meaningful ..) I look forward to seeing you come by whenever you can ..

    I’m going to be doing the NaPoWriMo challenge again–a poem a day for April, but I’m not positive if I’ll post every day.

  7. What an inspiring theme! When I started to contemplate about freedom, the first association was the George Michel song with the supermodels in various stages of being undressed: the freedom of accepting your body (and in the cause go George Michel your sexuality).

    Then I thought about the freedom of West vs East because my youngest son this morning asked me about Stalin and I talked about how Stalin abused his ‘freedom’ by putting away enemies.

    After reading your blog I contemplated psychological freedom but more specifically the lack thereof: apparently we don’t have a lot of free will, it all seems to be an illusion.

    O gosh i did not want to end at such a dark note. You have such a capacity to look for good things and find brightness in every situation. i look forward to your daily blogs already, I missed your blogs.

    • There could be so many themes for Freedom Susanne. I’ve been thinking about B for Body and how to use this and you have given me the prod thank you!

      It’s going to be more difficult than I originally thought, though I plan on keeping posts short and relevant. And believe me I often think that Freedom is an illusion –

In the land of the “little blue bird” (Twitter) one of my favourite follows is that of @Rumi_Quote because in one sentence or two they share the clearest beauty and wisdom of the great poet himself. I look forward to reading your shared pearls of wisdom on “freedom” and the marriage of word and image. Love and light, Deborah.

      • Ha-ha! I always refer to Twitter as the land of the little blue bird! As the weather is bright, sunny and warm here no doubt i’ll be visiting woods & wandering through the countryside this weekend, and hopefully penning my April poem by Monday. Yes, to the poets and great “Freedom” quotes. Mandela was a poet to me! x

    I am new to your blog and I found you through A-2-Z. As I looked at your blog I noticed you have a new book on Aging – Aging and Becoming. I will have to check this out. My theme for April is Aging and Retirement. I was my mom’s caregiver for 8 years and did a long series of posts on my caregiving experience (while going through it) on my blog called Through My Caregiver Eyes. My mom died in 2014. So I will be interested in your book – as well as your topic of Freedom. See you again in April.

    • Thanks for coming by Elaine. I doubt that many of us realise how much of a task caregiving is especially when the person one care gives is a parent. Or a child. Or just in caregiving as a vocation. Our book ‘Aging & Becoming ~ A Reflective Enquiry’ – Dr Susan E. Schwartz is co-author – is an enquiry between the 2 of us though it does have universality and addresses questions such as you may have. I’ll check you out and hope there is a link that I can follow so that I can receive your posts by email. Good luck with it all.

  10. Hi, Susan – I love your spontaneous decision making. “Just going with it” (when we can) makes life more interesting. ‘Freedom’ is a great focus. I just finished reading Washington Black by Esi Edugyan (winner of The Giller Prize and listed by the NYTimes as one of the “Top Ten Books of the Year”). This book has many interesting things to say about Freedom. If you ever get a chance to read it, I highly recommend it.
